It’s our pleasure to announce that this year’s Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau will be held on the weekend of 17-19 July, and to reveal the festival’s new look, designed by Sioned Medi!
Originally from the Llyn Peninsula, Sioned now lives and works in Cardiff having graduated with a First Class degree in Textiles from Manchester Metropolitan University. Sioned decided to move back to Wales to work in the world of children’s TV and to focus on her design work, and in February 2019 was awarded a place on a children’s illustration course at Tŷ Newydd Writing Centre. Since then she has worked on a number of projects, including designing the cover for Geraint Løvgreen a’r Enw Da’s latest album, artwork for BBC Sounds podcast ‘Siarad Secs’ and has designed the logo for the theatre company Criw Brwd.
Sioned’s inspiration came from the many elements of the festival, where music, literature and Welsh dance go hand in hand with the location and landscape. The work combines the art world and the natural world to represent the festival’s uniqueness.
“It’s been my pleasure to think about ideas and create the artwork for this year’s festival” says Sioned Medi. “It’s been wonderful imagining my work at centre of the festival’s gigs and events and around the town. I’m delighted and grateful for the chance to create the new image for one of Wales’ most iconic festivals.”
Sioned’s designs complements the wonderful theme created by designer Dafydd Owain, who created a totally unique font for the festival.
Keep a look out for Sioned’s amazing design work on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram account over the next few weeks!
