12pm ‘Y Delyn Aur’, Malachy Edwards | Tŷ Siamas.

Mary Emlyn asks Malachy Edwards about his Welsh languageautobiography ‘Y Delyn Aur’ (tr. The Golden Harp). Malachy Edwards faces his mixed-race, multi-cultural and religious identity while tracing his family history in Ireland and Barbados. With the background of our recent history, including Brexit and Covid-19, he writes honestly about life’s great experiences such as the birth of his children.

1pm, Mary Ellis and The Women’s Peace Petition | Tŷ Siamas.

Dr Sian Rhiannon commemorates the life of Mary Elizabeth Ellis. Born in Dolgellau, Mary Ellis was one of the women who went over to America to present the Welsh Women’s Peace Petition in 1923, on behalf of the 390,296 Welsh women who had signed it. The 1923 Peace Petition was drawn up five years after the horrors of the First World War shattered Europe, with the intention of ensuring that the women of the USA heard the voices of the women of Wales to work together for a world without war. A special plaque for Mary Ellis will be unveiled on the Square at midday, Saturday 19/7/25.

Ffion Dafis talks to Kristoffer Hughes about his interesting trips around the world.

3pm, Memories through song – Gai Toms | Tŷ Siamas

The poet and composer from Blaenau Ffestiniog recalls some of his experiences along with a notable selection of his songs, their significance to him personally, their background and some entertaining tales about performing. (Gwasg Carreg Gwalch).

*All sessions are in Welsh with English translation available.
